Just a quickie to say hello to all of you new and that you can grab a sampler of our new-studio-inspired-un-mastered track 'Tunnels'. It was a track created by Oli and Chris and was recorded just after its conception, so we thought we'd share it with you all. Monday 9th November // New E.P, Secret Dinosaurs and Bloodied Sheep
So we've been having a great old time playing lots and lots and lots. Our first at the Bedford, Balham, to celebrate the birth of the Secret Dinosaur Club, a chance for local bands to be seen together and share their instruments and talents with each other in a kind of swingers club for musicians. The night also raised a lovely £134.16 for Switchback , a charity aimed at supporting ex-young-offenders. So a big thank you to all of you that came down!
Following that saw Halloween madness, or the night of two-and-a-half-gigs. Our first stop was Local Festival by local Australian-Entrepeneur Ray - Rutsfest! We came. We Played. We laughed. We enjoyed. We got scared of little kids in halloween costumes. Then onto the tube up to the next gig, which on realising we hadn't sorted out any decent covers, prompted the half-gig on the Northern Line. By far my fondest memory (out of the three things I recall from te whole night) was on the tube, packed with costume-clad and equally festively-naked folk who sung and danced and enjoyed our repetoire of Dizzee Rascal, Girls Aloud and Take That. If anyone finds us, please send me some of the footage, I definitely saw my soul being stolen by a camera phone or two.
Finally off to a venue on Old Street, which descended into chaos, but was a great way to end the day. So thank you all who followed us around for the night and who danced on the tube!
Last Saturday, brings us up to date with the Slaughtered Lamb show. After a ropey start with dodgy mics and neon signs, we all managed to pull it together to play through a lot of our new material. One of which we had still been 'umming' and 'aaahhhing' at until the sound check, but thank you for the warm response to it, we'll write up the necessary reports, cross check them, fax them off, re-evaluate and play at the next gig. Thanks to everyone who sat and ignored our awkward demeanour - we're genuinely not used to people sitting and actually listening to music, always amazing finding places where it does happen - isn't that what gigs are supposed to be?
Next stop, recording our lovely little debut EP as the full band that we have become, and by jove we're looking forward to it. Sorry for all the hyphens. I did go back and take some out.
Monday 5th October // Channel 4 and a Headless Queen
Hello all, for anyone who has found us here via the Smokescreen game, welcome! Thank you for searching us. For those
of you clueless to these ramblings, we recently featured in Chanel 4's online drama Smokescreen as the crafty band who
were asked by Jo to sneak into a school and film the song via the CCTV.
The game is being met with great reviews, so check it out yourselves for your chance to see our lovely little faces onscreen.
On from our brief stint on the interweb wall of fame, we're playing at the Old Queen's Head pub in Islington this Sunday, so if you're not too busy quaffing down Yorkshire puds and roasted meats, come join us. More details on the SHOWS page. All the love.
Monday 3rd August // Standon Called, More Rats and Love.
Five Sixths of The Cutaway just returned from a truly inspirational trip to Standon Calling, a twee minifest in the fields of Hertfordshire.
There we saw some lovely music, but maybe a bit too much Disco for our liking. The acts ranged from the quite exciting to the quite dull.
Par exemple, Mumford and Sons were spectacular, and although battling with a crowd battling with each other, they converted a little teepee
into an Irish boozey bar with jiggin and singin. Also to check out if you are bored and stuck in a Spotify void, listen to Everything Everything
who proved schizophrenia to be acceptable musically, and Dent May and His Magical Ukulele who looked like an owl.
On from our exciting times away, we have another date added after our greatly enjoyable time at the Water Rats last time. Thank you to those
Who came down to that, we had a great time and appreciated the energy you brought to a Tuesday night. We will be supporting Dawn Landes at the Water Rats in London on Monday 24th August at 7.30pm. Please come down and share the love. xx
Tuesday 28th July // Mothers, Letting Go and a Rat.
Tonight we headline the Monto Water Rats with some amazing bands. It will truly be an amaing niThis time we;re
Swine flu is not an excuse for not being here fellows, however I am. Dutifully. Loyally. Mesmerically. Look it up. In anycase, I
thought I should fill you in on goings on at Camp Cutaway. We are currently working towards a debut release for the Autumn. Now
is the time for us to be taken seriously! Our fun has been had, but friends, we can't continue our lives employed in jobs we're
not entirely sure how we ended up in. So if you are reading this you are finding us at a very important moment in our music.
We are about to take aim and fire. To be in the crosshairs, keep looking back here - I will let you know what is happening.
Next stop The Halfmoon end of this month. See you there hopefully!
Monday 2nd March // Sun in March?
Having taken a relaxing retreat to our home from home Pie Corner, we've got some exciting new music for you and
a mini adventure to join us on if you feel inclined. This second, the sun is infact blistering down on me where I sit writing this
entry, therefore it is infact now summer.
I even saw someone pick up some litter from the street outside my house earlier on.
Aint it great how such a simple change
in climate can bring out the best in people.
I digress... So this weekend we're mobilising troops and heading West to Cardiff.
Couldn't be more excited about it! We have a hostel booked for all those joining us, and those of you suddenly wrapped in
jealousy that you did not commit early enough, all is not lost. There are still spaces in the cars and I'm
sure there will be someone to stay in Cardiff for the night. Even if you're evenings endeavours don't land
you in the arms of a Welsh Gent/Dame, then sleeping outside for the night isn't that bad - it is after all Summer now.
Contact us at info@thecutaway.org.uk if you need help.
Following that we are off to 93 Feet East next Weds (11th) which'll be just grand, then the Islington Academy
two thursdays on from there (26th). It's all go. So do keep up? We wouldn't want any stragglers
missing out now would we?
Sunday 1st February // Snow in February?
Well how excited we are. After a fantastic night of frolics at the Halfmoon we are all super charged and looking toward a few
adventures ahead. We have a wee surprise for you in the form of a unmastered but still well loved recording of 'Stay Where You Are'. It can
be heard here and on the myspace page too, so take a listen and tell us what you think! We will also be heading off to play in the foreign
land of Wales
on March 7th and we would just love you to come on a small holiday with us. Shake away those spring blues
and come to the land of the free. We have a hostel booked so let us know if you're interested in joining for one big
hootinanny.
Sunday 25th December // Merry Christmas!
A big Merry Christmas to you all, thanks for an amazing year from us all. New music online soon. New pics online now.
Same old Sam though. All the Love.
